Poor Bert, after all those years of support, to discover that Ernie was… straight….

Well, whadya know… of all the shocking things we have discovered about the Muppets over the course of this series…… ;P

I have to confess that I wrote this partly because of my pet peeve about Bert and Ernie being or not being gay. Not that I have problems with gay people (went to school outside San Francisco—had a few gay friends), but seriously, the characters were supposed to be 5 yr olds! They weren’t in a romantic relationship, cause they were just kids, and at that kids more based on ‘The Odd Couple’ (consider the time period and New York feel to everything) than anything near Haight and Ashbury.

Not that there isn’t a subtext you can find in The Odd Couple if you really want to, or anything…
Nah, it’s all good. The Bert and Ernie thing was just an offhand reference to an ancient joke that even became an internet meme for a little while in the ‘90s.
