Diner Diaries: The Desert
Joe pulled out of the parking lot, looked around, and took the first street that suited him. Madge uncaringly sat back, watching the blur of the world outside.
After a long period of silence, Madge sighed dramatically. “Joe, I want to move to the desert,” she said.
“Why?” he asked looking at her strangely.
“I don’t know why. I just want to,” Madge said with a shrug.
“Can I come?” Joe said, looking a bit enthusiastic.
“Do you look like you’re my boyfriend?” She said glaring out the window.
“Well, no,” he started, “But can I be?” Madge slowly turned to look at him incredulously, her mouth gaping open. Her dark bangs hung over her eyes, yet she still looked disturbed at the very notion.
“Hmm. We’ll see,” she said with a smirk.
Joe continued to drive aimlessly, a smile hidden on his face.
