A Chance for Happiness
He rushed inside and dialed the number. It rang several times until he heard that sweet voice on the other end.
“Hello?” She asked.
“Nicole! I love you too! I just got your letter.” He said hurriedly, not wanting his pride to screw up the biggest apology he had ever made. “Darlin’ I’m so sorry…I couldn’t have made a bigger mistake when I left….Please don’t tell me I’m too late…”
There was a long silence, then, “I-I love you to Eric, but I’m not with you anymore. You left me….”
Eric clawed at his stomach as it turned in his body. “Please don’t give up on me! I know I messed up big time, but I can’t lose you! You mean the world to me! Not a day has gone by that I don’t miss your face.”
I could tell she smiled. She said slowly. ”...Okay…I’ll meet you here at six this evening to talk.”
I thanked her a dozen times and hung up, but couldn’t stop pacing. I nearly walked a rut into the floor, but five-thirty eventually rolled around and he hurriedly got dressed.
