“Did things escilate from there?” Asked the Lawyer.
“Oh yes. We were in the kitchen at the time and this is where the argument occurred. I tried to tell him, that April does her homework in the afternoon, with her friend Judy. But, he would not listen to me. He grew frustrated with me and knocked over some chairs. He raised his voice and threatened to hit me. I told him not to, but he did anyway. He slapped me across the face, then he punched me in the face.”
As Toni recounted this situation, she had a tear rolling down her cheek.
“I tried to reason with him and see what was making him so furious, but it was of no use. He never told us what made him so upset. We only had to suffer the consequences when he got this upset”
“I see, has he had issues with alcohol before, was this a common occurrence?” Asked the lawyer.
“Most definitely, it was rarely this bad. But he did become despondent to us, and he would turn to alcohol when things didn’t go his way.” Toni agreed.
