a tough night
James didn’t eat anything that night, even though his mother had made maccaroni and cheese. She cleaned up the kitchen afterwards, hoping the monotonous work would take her mind off of the day’s events.
After tucking James in, she went to her own bed and feel sleep almost instantly.
James, however, couldn’t sleep. He wept into his pillow, making his eyes red and puffy. For him sleep seemed like a luxury he couldn’t afford. Horrible memories plagued his mind, while warring thoughts fought endless battles in his head.
...Your daddy’s dead…
He cried even harder before getting up and creeping into his mother’s room. He crept on to the bed and snuggled next to her. She hadn’t noticed him, for she slept like a rock. James held his mother tight, and got the most sleep that night than he’d had in over 5 months.
When he woke up, he found his mother crying while watching out the window.
“You dont have to get up, sweetie, you’re staying home today…”
