Stone Cold - A Unique Love Story

“Don’t worry, May,” he said gently. His piercing blue eyes were wide, earnest. “I won’t let them take you. We both know you belong here, right?” He smiled, and absently twisted a flower between his fingers. “Are daffodils still your favorite?” he asked, a slight smile on his mouth. “I brought you some. I hope you like them.”

He placed them in front of her and looked up at the sky. “It’s cold today. Once it’s summer, we can have a real picnic. Oh, and just so you know, I won’t be back for a few days. But when I get back, I’ll make sure you stay where you need to, okay?” Suddenly, a voice came from behind them, startling him.

“This is ridiculous, Robert,” Victoria said. “Say goodbye and let’s go. Mother wanted us there by tonight.”

He nodded. “Alright. Bye, May. I’ll be back before you miss me.” And Robert reached out his hand to touch her.

Cold granite met his fingertips. With a sigh and a sad smile, he turned from her grave and walked towards the car.
