My Youth: February-March, My 1st Winter-Spring I
I can’t stop thinking about Unique. She wasn’t there to meet Naira and I for the past week. Kerem says she’s fine, just busy with this and that, but I can’t help but worry. Kerem keeps on chuckling when I ask about her, like he knows something I don’t. It annoys me.
She finally comes again, and I can’t see anything the matter with her, except she looks sort of sad. Maybe because her brother will be leaving before two weeks go by. Kerem says he wants to talk to Naira alone, and they both leave giggling amongst themselves like they just played a little trick on us. Unique and I walk for awhile, and we see some signs of spring: little green sprigs poking through the ground, or small flowers. She smiles at me. And I suddenly move toward her and nuzzle her nose. She smiles even brighter and we both know. We will both have a burrow this spring. I am in love with Unique.
