Finally Together

Rodney smiled down at her.
Rodney: Hey.
Jeanette: Hi.

She bounced on the balls of her sneakers, unable to say anything else. Instead, they stood for a minute. Finally, Rodney picked her up in a bear hug and laughed.
Rodney: You seemed too stiff, I had to do something.
Again Jeanette didn’t speak, she just squeezed him tighter.
Rodney: Ok, that’s enough. There’s people everywhere. Come on.
He put her down and they strolled under the boardwalk into the shade. Rodney sat in the sand and Jeanette placed herself in his lap. She leaned her head on him and ran her hand through his dirty blonde hair.
Rodney: J, where are your parents?
Jeanette: How should I know…or care?
Rodney: You’re seeing me and they don’t like it. Where are they?
Jeanette: Ugh, fine calm down. They are way way down the beach. I started a walk and once I was far enough I ran. Ok?
Rodney: This is not right.

He smiled and turned her face to look at him.
Rodney: But like I care.
And then he kissed as she melted into him.
