Genesis
Steve sat in the darkness, his face lit only by the flickering television in front of him.
“It happened, Adaime. Just like you said, come look.”
“I’d rather not, I know if I do, I’ll regret it forever.” she replied, concentrating on papers in front of her. In the dim light, she had spread out before her maps, measurements, and pages upon pages of calculations.
Steve stood and turned off the television. He couldn’t watch it any more. All those people…
He had to push it out of his mind. He walked to the window and looked up into the night sky. The misshapen rock hung there, opposite the beautiful moon, just taunting him.
It would make their lives hell, but at least he was finally with the love of his life…Adaime.
He walked back to her, pulling up a chair beside her. He wrapped his arms around her in a gentle but squeezing embrace.
“Steve,” she whispered softly “I have to finish this, you know that.”
“I know,” he said just as softly, and kissed her on the temple. “Please come to bed tonight, Adaime.”
