In A Heartbeat
She hummed as she pulled on her skirt and shimmied into the spaghetti strap top. After pulling her hair back into something managable she glanced at the clock.
She sighed. It would still be a half-hour before his train pulled in. She smiled to herself though. She couldn’t wait to see him. They’d only been apart for a week, but even a day without him made her feel lonely. She couldn’t wait though. She couldn’t wait to greet him with a kiss, hug him and have him to herself for a while. The minutes passed, and it finally became time to leave.
Outside the birds were singing and the flowers were blooming. It was high summer and the sun was beaming. She waked briskly resisting the urge to run or skip. Soon she reached the train station.
She glanced around and tried to pick him out from the crowd. Then suddenly he appeared and waved. Cheerfully she rushed towards him. He wasn’t smiling. He didn’t hug her hello.
” I want to break-up” he said coldly
Crying, she turned and ran. It was all over in a heartbeat.
