Moon's Peak

Luna licked Mark’s hand. He was a nice guy after all.
“Can wolves bark?” Mark asked. Luna barked loudly in his face. “I take that as a yes,” he put a hand in his ear, trying to clear the ringing sound from his head.
Luna lay down beside him and put her head on his foot. He was much nicer when she was a wolf.
“Good girl,” Mark stroked her softly. Luna could almost go to sleep. But she had to stay awake. She needed to go back before the sun was up. Luna stood, her foot padded by the bandage.
“Are you going somewhere?” Mark asked. Luna looked at him and nodded solemnly.
“Can I follow?”
Luna shook her head.
“Fair enough.”

Luna trotted back up the hill. She stood at its top and let loose a howl of pure joy. Mark shivered at the sound. She stood proudly and swished her tail, and then she disappeared into the darkness.

There is something definitely special about that wolf, Mark thought.

Why is my heart beating so fast?
