The Beast of Conformity (THX 0477's travesty of a challenge inspired by Stovohobo's High School Proverb of a Six Word Memoir)
I look around and laugh. How ridiculous this joke called high school is. Have you ever noticed how circles of people form, and they all try to shove themselves into a box to be more like someone else…some nameless perfect that doesn’t exist?
Oh, the beast of conformity.
And then there’s me. I walk the vacuous spaces between the circles, observing the behaviour of my classmates. I’ve notebooks full of the real stuff, drama the likes of which no actor can achieve. That’s what you get observing teenage girls, and the occasional guy. Fascinating creatures, high schoolers.
I prefer to be. Unhindered. My peers wear chains they’ve crafted themselves. They hide behind them.
I may as well be naked. I love the feeling. I walk about singing my soul for all who wish to hear it. No one seems to.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying high school is an environment non-conducive to intelligent life. I surely flourish. You simply must avoid the monster, go at it with pure heart.
