Listen with Your Heart

“It’s very calm here,” Aysen pointed out.
“One of the reasons I like it,” Sora said.

There was a little stretch of road, and a fence that ran on its side. On both sides the road was surrounded by forests, and on the left was a little river of water running through a glade of sunlight and shade.

“I come here because I love to listen to the sounds,” Sora said, leaning back and closing her eyes. She stroked Noah’s head softly, and he rested his great copper head on her knee.
“Sounds?” Aysen raised an eyebrow.
“Sit here,” Sora patted a spot next to her. Aysen obliged. “Lean back, close your eyes, and listen to everything around you.”

Once again, Aysen did as he was told. He closed his eyes. After a few minutes of careful listening, he could hear everything around him. The small chuckle and gurgle of the rivulet on the rocks, a squirrel scurrying from tree to tree; The cry of the eagle above the trees.

He understood Sora’s world a little better now.
