Uncovering

“It’s amazing,” Aysen breathed.
“I wish I could see it,” Sora smiled. “I imagine a place that holds all these wondrous things would be beautiful.”
“It is-It really is,” Aysen assured her.
“I’m glad,” Sora sighed. She smiled again, her milky white eyes catching the rays of the sun.
“What made you blind?” Aysen asked.
“My own stupidity and curiosity. I walked into my biological father’s chemical lab, looking for him to ask him to reach a ball for me. I tripped over a container and splashed sulfuric acid into my eyes,” Sora said.
“What are these?” Aysen touched discoloration marks at the edges of her eyes.
“Those used to be really bad burns. The acid literally ate through my skin. I was in really bad condition…Most of the time I remember hearing things going on in the ER,” Sora clasped his hand, and gripped it tightly. “I hate hospitals.”

He squeezed her hand back, and Noah whined and licked her face. She stroked him comfortingly.

“It’s difficult being blind.”
