“What do you want from me?!” I yelled at him. I stood there, waiting for a response.

She stared at me, waiting. What was I supposed to say? That I was making friends because I wanted to make her sister jealous? That was the truth of the matter.

Wasn’t it?

He stood there, looking utterly confused. All this time, I knew what he wanted. My sister had turned him down, and he wanted to get back at her. The only reason I went along was because of how she’d hurt him. I wasn’t interested in him.

Or was I?

I should stop standing here like an idiot and say something. “I just want you to love me… Help me! I meant help me!” Why the hell did I say that?

“Excuse me?” Did he just say… No, wait. I heard that wrong. I must have!

Oh, great. “I admit, I just wanted to be friends so I could get to your sister. I’ve been after Jessica since sixth grade.”

“Sheila,” I said. “I’m Jessica.” What the…

“I… Well… Uh… We…”

“Pick me up at 8:00. We’ll talk.” I walked away, confused, but smiling.
