Awkward Silence
I sat down on my bed and looked at the phone on my nightstand. He seems nice. Maybe he’ll call me… I had given Tyler my number.
“Hayley, dinner’s ready!” I got up and walked to the table.
“So, how did school go today?”
“Um, good I guess. I met this kid Tyler, he seems nice.”
“Oh, a boy. Any girls?” He said that like Tyler was bad or something.
I stared up at him, “No.”
“Well then what about that blind kid, did you meet him.”
“No, actually, I didn’t see him today, too busy.”
At that moment, the phone rang. For some reason I shot up, “I got it!” I dashed to the kitchen, quickly dumping the remains of my dinner in the garbage as I picked up the phone. “Jefferson family, this is Hayley speaking. How may I help you?” “Hey Hayley.”
It’s Tyler! We talked for hours, or at least it seemed that way. Then there was an awkward silence.
“Tyler, you still there?”
“Yeah, I have a question. Listen I’m no good at this but…will you go out with me tomorrow?”
Another awkward silence.
