A Cry in the Dark
She let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding in the form of a small gasp. The gasp was accompanied by a small cry, very distinguishable in the darkening fog. At one point, all visible light had been pink and fog had blurred the vision. Now, however, the pink had deepened to a scarlet, a hue only a few shades from black.
She was surprised to hear the cry escape her lips, for she had forgotten sound, as if she had been deaf her whole life and could suddenly hear. The surprise made her stumble and fall backwards onto the ground.
Either drawn by the cry she’d made previous, or by the thud her body made as she fell to the ground, he slowely turned to face her.
