Mr. Ripley Would Be Proud (XIV)

I told them everything, every last detail I could remember.

With the exception of a rather loud, “Bullshit!” from Robert (which gained him an elbow from Jaime), and an equally loud, “Way to go!” from Will when I mentioned the little blonde in Daros Village (which gained both of us a decidedly evil glare from Jaime), they were very quite. They listened to every word I said.

And, in the end, they didn’t believe a word of it.

“Come off it, Dave,” Will said. “Look, you’re my best friend and I love you like a brother. But how stupid do you think we are?”

“Yeah,” Robert laughed. “Really. Like you could ever get laid!”

“He’s got a better chance than you!” Jaime shouted. I think I was the only one who saw her blush. What the hell was that all about?

“Fine,” I said. “Whatever. Believe me or don’t. I know what happened.”

“Look,” Will told me, “You have to admit, it’s pretty hard to believe. Without proof, I mean.”

“Oh, yeah.” I flipped the coin on the table. “No proof.” The three of them went dead silent.
