Markings (XVII)

“Come here, guys.” Will dropped a couple of binders on the table next to the coin. “You have to see this.”

Will was incredible. I had detailed note on major things in my world, but Will kept these meticulous notes in the little details. He had an entire 3” binder dedicated to one hundred years of fashion changes in my world. He okayed pretty much anything with me, though not always the details.

“Dave, you remember when I mentioned my idea about the Beldeford family adding markings to their coins with every successive ruler?” he asked.

“Yeah, I do.” I think I knew where he was going.

“I told you the what, but not the how or where.” He pointed to the entry in his binder. Starting with the second Beldeford ruler, a number was added to the coin indicating the succession of rulers.

“Neat idea,” Robert said. “But so what.”

“By Dave’s timeline, Hani is the sixth ruler of the Beldeford line. Look directly below his image.”

Sure enough, right below Hani’s likeness was a small VI, the Roman numeral for six.
