Convinced (XVIII)

Robert sighed. “Again, so what?” We all looked at him, annoyed. He held up his hands, defensively. “Look, guys, it’s a neat idea, but it doesn’t prove anything to me. How do I know he hasn’t seen it before?”

“Robert,” Will asked, “we’ve had our differences, sure, but do you trust me?”

Robert looked at Will. He seemed to be weighing his answer carefully.”Yes,” he said, finally. “Yes, I do. Despite any problems in the past, you’ve never really given me a reason to doubt you.”

“So, if I told you I wrote that three weeks ago, and Dave hasn’t been here in over a month…” He stopped, and waited for a reply.

“Will, if you tell me that you’ve never discussed this in detail, and that Dave has never looked at your binder, I’ll believe you.” He smiled. “I know you well enough to know you won’t risk a friendship over a joke.”

“Okay,” Jaime chimed in, her voice a little shaky. “So, Dave’s telling the truth. What does that mean?”

“It means,” I said, “that we’ve got a quest. And we’re going to see Adrovan. Tonight.”
