Reunion (XXII)
“Alex!” we all cried simultaneously. For a brief moment, I thought we should be in a tavern shouting, “Norm!”, but that passed quickly.
Robert and Alex shook hands and gave each other a clap on the back, then Will and I followed suit. Jaime gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked. “Aren’t you supposed to be at UofT?”
“What?” he asked. “Do you seriously think Toronto is more exciting than here?”
“Seriously,” I said. “How long have you been here?”
“Of and on, about five months.” He grinned sheepishly.
“Five…” Will looked at Alex. “Have you even seen the university campus?”
“Well, the truth is…” Alex sighed. “I never was accepted.”
Jaime frowned. “You lied to us?”
“Oh, come on, J.” I don’t know if he looked more annoyed or hurt at the question. “Five months ago, what would you have said if I told you I’d been hanging out with Adrovan?”
Jaime held up her hands in surrender. “Point taken. So, what have you been doing for five months?”
We sat, he talked.
