Home at last - and asleep

Jocinda looked from the mice to the fish, then turned toward the ladder in the corner of the room and made her way up out of the cell. Seeing the small 15 foot room obscured from sight as she closed the hard white leather of second base made her feel slightly more normal. The cat and snake came up to her.

“Guten abend.”, said the snake, reverting back to his horrid German accent.

“Heil.”, she replied, thinking it the most appropriate response to the insanity of the day.

Fluffy looked up at her, seeing that stress and incredulity had finally taken their toll. “Shall we go home?”, he asked.

“Yes… but for once, let’s do something normal and take a cab.”, she said.

Outside Yankee Stadium, a yellow cab stopped in response to their waves.

“N. 87th St. please.”, Jocinda said, then laid her head on the cool hardness of the window.

Arriving home, she struggled out of her paisley shirt, slippers, and khaki pants, slid into the cool of her unmade bed, and fell asleep.
