Just A Little Embarrassed
Drew came in looking as though he’d just been harassed.
Me: Your mom not very understanding?
Him: Not exactly.
I smile and turn to my dad, who is looking between the two of us with a look of shock on his face. Good to know you didn’t think I could make friends, Dad.
Me: Dad, this is my friend Drew, he’s in my homeroom and other classes.
We smile at each other, remembering chemistry.
Dad: Oh, well, good to meet you, Drew, which is short for Andrew I suppose?
Drew walks forward and shakes his hand.
Drew: Nice to meet you to, sir. And actually no, it’s not short for anything.
Dad: Ah, I see.
I notice he seems to be sizing Drew up and decide to change the subject before Dad starts grilling him.
Me: so… What do the doctors say, Dad?
Dad looks slightly annoyed and blushes slightly. Dad: I’ll be fine. Why don’t you two go wait outside or something?
I chuckle, amused to find he’s embarrassed to admit his alcoholic condition to Drew. To bad Drew already knows.
