Just A Little Suspicious

I saw realization cross his face, followed by an amused smirk. Him: I see…
That ticked me off ever so slightly. Me: No. You don’t.
He chuckled. Him: You don’t know if you can trust me. You want longer than a day to judge me. You want to know what other people think of me.

He chuckled again, although I still couldn’t tell what he found amusing about this. Suddenly he lost his smile, scowling as a thought crossed his mind. He quickly covered it up with a care-free smile.
Him: How exactly are you planning on discovering the general populace’s opinion of me? Take a poll?
I could tell he was genuinely worried about something, and it made me suspicious.
Me: Why do you ask?
He sighed. Him: Because there is… are a few people who don’t really like me here. So I was wondering who you were going to ask.
I frowned. Me: I wasn’t just going to ask around or something. I was going to, well, observe.
Him: Oh, well that works. I’m guessing we’re taking it slow now?
I resisted the urge to be sarcastic.
