Just A Little Frustrating
Amelia giggled again. How what I’d said was funny I’d never know. I turned back to Cynthia to continue our conversation. Amelia beat me to it.
Amelia (falsely cheerful): Wait, you must be the new girl! Cynthia isn’t it?
Cynthia merely nodded.Amelia continued with another annoying giggle. Her:You’re the one with a drunk Dad, aren’t you? That must be… interesting.
She gave me a meaningful look. My knuckles were white from gripping the table so hard, I opened my mouth to speak/yell at Amelia when Cynthia spoke(smiling vaguely): Not exactly the adjective I would choose but yes, I suppose it can be mildly interesting.
Amelia(blinking and looking at my angry expression): Oh… and you move around a lot?
Cynthia(still smiling): Yes.
Amelia(hopefully): So you won’t be here long?
Cynthia(now obviously amused): I wouldn’t say that. I’ve been at places anywhere from one month to a year and a half.
Amelia(trying to hide her disappointment): Oh, well, see you later than, you too Drew.
I focused on not exploding.
