Those You Love the Most and Those You Know the Least
Marley’s face dropped. “What kind of outbreak?”
Alex studied his forearm and then whisked the two of them down a side corridor. Finding an empty lab, she all but shoved Marley through the door.
“Wait for me in here,” she ordered. “Now – I know you, and you’re trying really hard not to freak out in front of me right now, but don’t worry. We can fix this, and I won’t be long.”
Before he could respond, she disappeared from the doorway.
She was right, however, in that Marley was starting to freak out. The weirdness on his arm was one thing, but the retroactive u-turn life had taken in the last few minutes was dizzying. The five years he and Alex had been married, the fights, the strange phone calls – it started to make sense, despite the fact that none of it made sense.
He scanned the room, focusing on its contents. There were no obvious clues about the research done here, except for the faint smell of ash. Oddly, it was getting darker, and he noticed that the floor was heading straight at him.
