Cowardice
“Shit, Lil he’s coming over here!” hissed Fred, his blue eyes widening. Fred was one of the few mortals I found intensely fascinating. Apparently Fred didn’t like girls. Well, at least not like Ephraim liked girls. None the less he and Ephraim were virtually inseparable.
My breath caught in my chest. Could this be it? Was this the mortal I had been looking for?
“Well, what do I do?” I asked anxiously. Aodhfin had taught me a lot of things back home. Seducing a mortal was not one of them.
“How the hell should I know?” replied Fred, running a hand through his strawberry blond hair. “I dunno, flutter your eyelashes? Giggle a bit?”
“I have a better idea…” I said, glancing at the guy who was rapidly closing in on me.
“What?”
Before Fred had even begun to reply I quickly sped off to the bathroom, pushing my way through the multitudes of sweaty bodies.
At that moment I wasn’t thinking about the Test. I wasn’t thinking about anything except getting out of there.
Cowardice is a funny thing, isn’t it?
