What They Know

Have you ever just wanted to erase something? Just one thing that you hate yourself for doing? It’s the thing that makes you feel like knots are in your stomach. The one thing that you feel defines you and when someone comes along that doesn’t know about your past it’s kinda hard to tell them. Maybe, it’s because you’ve seen how it changes people when you are around them.

“Cassie?”, Landon says as he comes to my locker.

Silence. I can’t think of what to say.

“About yesterday, are you okay?”, it’s that same hush tone.

“Um…”, nothing.

“My offer still stands.”, this time it’s a little louder.

“I can’t tell you.”

It’s not that I don’t want to tell him. Because I do. It’s just, well, I don’t have a reason.

“Why not?”, Landon says a little confused.

“Cause, of what they think.”

“Do they know the truth?”

This is a question I don’t even know the answer too. I’ve questioned the fact that what I did isn’t really what happened. That it’s actually what they think.
