Rejected
“Yeah, just one problem.” Brian told her.
“What’s wrong?” Lily panicked.
“I can’t dance.” he admitted quietly as they entered the doors. Lily burst out laughing. “What?”
“That’s it? You can’t dance? I can teach you to dance. No worries.” she told him but then Patrick interrupted.
“Lily, can I speak to you alone?” he asked politely.
“Um sure.” She followed him past the dance floor, leaving Brian alone.
Once they were far from everyone, Patrick began, “How could you be here with him? Don’t you remember what we have together?”
“Had.” Lily retorted, “We had something together but then you broke up with me so I moved on. Looks like you haven’t.”
“Oh come on Lil, don’t be like that.” He stroked her cheek and she turned away.
“It’s Lily. You can’t use that old nickname on me.” She began to leave.
“Wait.”
Lily faced him, “What?”
Patrick looked into her eyes pleadingly and whispered, “Can’t I have one dance?”
Lily didn’t even have to think. “No.” And she left him for Brian.
