Baseballs in the Yard 2

His dad was no longer a part of his life. He just got up and left. He never came back. He knew that for sure when mom told him “Don’t count on it”. How Dexter missed him. He was long gone, so gone. But now, he imagined the un-imaginable. What if Derek Jeter was my dad? What would that be like? I would be able to play on the huge baseball field. I could actually play on a field. He would practice with me all day long. No one to say “Sorry, I have to go make lunch”. He would have the best equipment in the world. Not his brother’s hand me down glove or anything like that. He could sell signed balls on e-bay for the extra cash, if Big Daddy Jeter would let him. It would be a great life. The best life.
“Honey!” called mother. She was looking down at him from the porch. “Lunch time!”
Dexter dropped his glove and walked up the steps. Derek Jeter or his real dad? At this point, he would pick Derek.
