“Wait!” I called after Nick. He was fading into the distance. My heart was fading, too. I had to have more faith in him! If only I could have faith in myself. He liked me for me. I liked him for him. But now, I knew I was going to a loner once again. Joe finally caught up with me and he seemed almost normal. Was he ever normal?
“Hey, what happened?” he asked. I said nothing. Joe coughed as if to say “HELLO?” No comment from me what so ever. I just kept on walking.
We passed the diner as we were walking home and their they were. Nick and Allison laughing over lunch.
“Hey look!” said Joe. “It’s Nick and Allison!” I glanced over at him. Another tear dripped down my face.
“Oh, I think I understand now,” said Joe. Finally! Joe was flawless. He never had problems with girls. He was still going out with Lauren. It was almost a year now. And they hadn’t gotten into a single fight. Were they perfect or were they just not connecting? Lucky Joe. Lucky Kevin. Lucky Nick. They had faith in themselves and their loves.
