Remembering Reflections

I was rigid. I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to torture me like this. Wasn’t the stabbing knife enough? Did they have to pull my heart out and rip it to shreds too? The pain was unbearable; I couldn’t breathe. Amelia jumped up, “Oh, I’ll take her Miss Auburn.”
Miss Auburn looked as though she was going to object, but the bell rang and Amelia hurried over to Paige. I ran out of the class. Anything to get away from this.
I stumbled blindly into the bathroom, ripping my iPod from my ears. I leaned heavily on one of the sinks taking slow, deep breaths. I stared at my reflection. My eyes were empty, my face contorted. I took another shattering breath and twisted the faucet, splashing water on my face. The water was cold.
I let the water trickle down off my face until the silence was unbearable. I returned the ear buds to my ears. The song was still playing. I walked out of the bathroom, my mind blank again.
