Jake's Vision: Time is of the Essence.
My watch said, 3:04pm.
I looked down at my notebook and then, again, back to my watch.
“What the hell is going on?” I said to myself.
“Yo, Jake,” a voice called to me. I jumped, and scrambled to pick myself up off the campus lawn. I spun my head and saw Liam coming my way; my good friend.
“Jesus, Jake, you look terrible,” he said.
“uh.. ya,” i stammered. Words failed me. Only the time seemed to occupy my mind. “Rough night,” I managed.
“Hey listen, are we still on tonight?”
“Tonight?” My hands stopped fussing with my backpack, as I tried to focus on the here and now, failing miserably.
“Yes, tonight. My lovely girl, Heather, is out with the girls? You and me, a case of beer and Spinal Tap on DVD ? C’mon, man, what’s up with you?” Liam pulled as his red curls, and grabbed me by the shoulders. I started again, dropping my notebook.
“You may wanna hold back on the Red Bull, dude!” he said, picking up my book.
Asked he, “Who’s Cory Montgomery?”
My stare was blank when I said, I wish I knew!”
