Not Alone

I was running.
The woods breezed by me, giving way to a desert. In my wake I left a mild sandstorm as I continued at my breakneck pace. Something to my left caught my eye and I froze, dropping onto all fours and curling my lips back defensively.
Ranulf grinned back at me, Hello Fae, I thought you could use a little company.
I sighed. Stupid werewolves. “I’m planning on flying part of the way.”
He grinned again, Yes, which is why I brought Phoenix.
Phoenix hopped out from behind him, his beak half-open in an approximation of a smile, Hello Fae.
“Ranulf,” I said slowly, “He’s waiting for me. What if he doesn’t like werewolves?”
He’ll see that I mean no harm, Ranulf returned mentally, Besides, you could use someone who knows the Fae History.
I scowled. He knew he had me. There wasn’t any real reason he shouldn’t come, it was just that I wanted to do this alone. “Ranulf,” I sighed, “Really, you don’t have to do this.”
He shrugged, Davincent doesn’t want you out there alone
“Wait, what?”
