Landing Would Be Good

“He’s right, Susan. He’ll die if we don’t try to land! And the guy in the back is probably dead already. What the hell, Susan?! Why are you doing this?!”

“Do you love me, Katie?” Susan asked.

“What?”

“I’ll do it if you say you love me,” she said.

“For crying out loud, Susan, I love you! Is that what you want to hear?!” Kate put both hands over her face and began to cry.

“Say it like you mean it,” Susan said. “You don’t though, do you? You never did. It was all a lie, wasn’t it?”

Susan placed the gun in her mouth, but Steve knocked it loose and picked it up from the cockpit floor before she could pull the trigger. He winced as he touched his shoulder and returned to the flight controls with a renewed sense of determination in his eyes.

“Listen! The both of you, listen! I’m gonna have to trust you, Kate, cause I think you’re the least crazy of the two of you and that ain’t sayin’ much. But here, take the gun and keep her out of trouble! I’m gonna land this sum bitch and save us all!”
