If she's everything you've ever wanted, Part 16
I wanted her to feel safe and at ease, but at the same time I was worried about how Matt would take it. I didn’t know him that well, but I knew he had a short temper.
I heard her breathing hard, and I slipped my hand under hers, giving it a reasuring squeeze.
She sighed and gave a weak half-smile.
When we came to Maple Street, Elle ripped her hand away from mine as she set eyes on the silhouette of Matt on the Corner. She gave me a painful look that said I’m sorry, but I simply answered “It’s ok.”
The street lights began to flicker on as the evening sun sunk slowly below the horizon, taking the red-orange sky with it.
Matt didn’t walk towards us, he simply waited arrogantly for us to approach him, as if he was superior. As we got nearer, I could hear Elle sniffling.
“We should never have come, I’m so sorry Sean…”
I didn’t say anything, just rubbed her shoulder and kept walking. About 10 feet away Matt stirred.
“So Elle, who the hell is this?”
