I glanced out the window and then at the clock. It was eleven in the morning. I still could hear laughter and talking from down stairs. Then, there was a knock on my door. It was Joe.
“Hey,” he said quietly.
“Hi,” I replied. Joe was always there when I needed to talk.
“I know.”
“You know what?”
“Nick and Mandy.”
“Yeah,”. Tears started to drip down my face. I could tell that Joe felt really bad.
“I really don’t know what to say. I know this is my brother but even if it breaks his heart, you might have to break up with him.”
“I was afraid of that.”
“Yeah, everyones afraid of that. It’ll be okay though. But are you really gonna break up with him?”
“I don’t know. He likes Mandy. All I can say for now is thanks,”.
“For what?”
“For always being here for me. Your the best,”.
“Thanks.” Joe sat down and put his arm around me.
“I know this hasn’t been the best Christmas,” he said. “But you and me will make the best of it. And this time I promise you,”. I felt safe and happy with Joe. He would be here forever.
