If That's the Way It's Gonna Be: Part 21
Later that day, the phone rang. Oh no. I remembered. It was Maria’s number. I could stand up and confront her again. It took a lot of nerve but I could do it anyway. I picked up the phone with a stern voice.
“Hello?” I said, pretending that I didn’t know it was her.
“Hi Jacqueline, I think it’s time we straighten things out,”. I hear giggling from the background. Whatever.
“I thought we had taken care of this? We don’t have to be friends. You stay out my way and I’ll stay out of yours.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. It was loud and clear Maria. Enough.”
“Who do you think you are? My mother?”
“Yeah!” said a voice in the background. Oh my gosh. It was Jake.
“Jake?” I said with a nervous voice. It couldn’t be him.
“Yeah, you better stay away from Maria unless your gonna be sorry!” he said. That was it.
“Excuse me? I think you’ve got me confused with Maria. She’s the one starting up again. Maybe you should talk to her!” I wasn’t going to be mean. I wasn’t going to be nice.
“Now, thanks for calling. Goodbye.”
