Anything But Ordinary
Mallory had stood nearby just in case something happened while Josh was having a one-sided conversation with me.
I sat back down with her after walking away from Josh.
“You okay?” she asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I took a deep breath, “but listen, I think I’m just gonna go back home.”
“Okay,” Mallory nodded, “that’s fine.”
I turned to leave and made my way down the bleachers. When I turned the corner to leave the park, I spotted my friend, Alyssa.
She smiled and waved and came up to me, “Hey, what’s going on?”
“Nothing. I’m actually just on my way home,” I told her.
“Well, actually, I was kind of looking for you today,” she said.
“Looking for me? Why?” I asked.
“I kind of need some advice,” Alyssa said slowly, “on a guy.”
My eyebrows shot way up at this last sentence, “You need help with a guy? ‘Lyssa, you never need help with a guy.”
“I know, but this time it’s different,” she told me.
“How so?” I asked.
“Well, I actually like this guy, but he doesn’t like me back,” she explained.
