It's Not Over (My 50th Ficlet)

“Callie, we gotta go,” Mallory called from the other side of the seating area.
I closed my eyes in frustration, “Never mind then.”
Mitch nodded, “Okay, well, we better get going, as well.”
We stood up at the same time and went to leave in different directions without so much as a goodbye.
I didn’t mind it all that much, though, since I was about to ask him if he liked me which the idea of doing such was starting to sound so stupid as I walked with Mallory to the valet where her mom was waiting for us.
When we got to Mallory’s house for the Friday night sleepover, I asked her, “Hey, Mal, I don’t talk about Josh a lot, do I?”
“No, why?” she looked concerned.
“I was just wondering,” I paused, “I was talking to Mitch and it just got me thinking.”
Silence.
“I mean, you know I’m over him, right?” I confirmed.
“Well, yeah,” Mallory shrugged.
I nodded, “Okay.”
Another silence.
“Hey, Mal?”
“Yeah?”
I looked up at her and seriously considered saying what I was about to say…
“I’m not over him.”
