Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Winners of the Out-of-Order Challenge (Part 2)

Best Opening Scene
Simple Case by JMSquire
This series began with the sentence, “The screams tasted like what it thought lemon drops must taste like, deliciously sweet,” which is one of the best opening lines I’ve ever read, and the scene that followed it was immediately gripping.

A Whole Lotta Story In An Itty Bitty Space
Dinner Conversation by Valley Fey/Pinprick
This series was the bare minimum, 3 ficlets in total, and yet it still told an immense tale in that small space.

The Anti-Hero Award
Zeus vs. The Bird by Stovohobo
This was a chilling glimpse into the twisted mind of a serial killer. Masterful writing in this one.

.... And the Best Overall Use of Nonlinear Sequence Award goes to…..

Wrap Around by THX 0477
Of all the entries, I believe this series used the nonlinear sequence the best. The pacing was clean, the narration both clear and gripping. This dark piece is not the usual fare I’m accustomed to reading from THX , but I still think it’s one of his best stories to date.
