Snapping & Sighing
They got off at the bus stop that’d they’d got on that morning.
“I’m going to walk you home.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“It wasn’t a question.” Jack’s voice came out bitter, and Anna looked at him in surprise.
“Jack what is it?” Anna took his hand, more in frightment from the look on his face rather than in comfort for him.
“I don’t like knowing that Lance guy is hanging around this area.” Jack’s eyebrows pulled together and his lips creased into a straight line. Knowing why he was so serious now, Anna calmed down and started to let go of his hand, but Jack wouldn’t allow that. He grasped her hand tighter and pulled her closer.
Anna sighed, “Jack I don-”
“Anna listen to me! You can say what you want but I’m not leaving you alone with him running around out there! He could come back for you and do Lord knows what!” Jack had faced her with his hands on her shoulders. He sighed realizing he’d snapped at her. “I just don’t want to lose you..” He looked down at his feet. Anna put her hand on his cheek.
