After the Swim
An hour later, Ranulf was lifted back out of the dark sea, wet and shivering, back in his ‘human’ form.
I sighed, calling over my shoulder, “I told you that was a bad idea”
You have no idea how good that felt though, he commented mentally.
“Yes I do.You kept thinking it over and over again. ‘Wow. This is so cold. It makes my mind crystal clear.’ or ‘Wow.This is incredible’ or ‘Hey look! A fish!’ or ‘Wow this is fun.’ I didn’t even know someone could think so many ‘wows.’ ”
He laughed, Am I annoying you? Or are you jealous?
I muttered under my breath. I could feel through his emotions and mind how good the swim had felt, and I’d dearly wanted to join him, but I couldn’t retract my wings mid-flight, and water was bad for them, so I’d stayed airborne, muttering to myself. Ranulf, realizing he’d hit the correct mark, was thinking teasing, smug thoughts. He suddenly shuddered violently; he wasn’t quite as warm as a human. I laughed, “Still glad you took the swim?”
Yes, but this does suck, he amended.
