Ficlets

Monday Morning

The pounding on his door had become more insistent.

He rolled over with a groan. If I ignore them, maybe they’ll just go away…

After five minutes, he knew it was time to give in. With a shout of “Just a minute” directed at the door, he rolled out of his bed, grabbed a robe and stumbled his way to the door.

He opened the door a mere inch and gave the messenger outside his most searing glare. “Well?”

“Sir, you said to wake you if anything happened.”
“And?”
“Look out your window.”

Leaving the door ajar, he wandered over to the window and glanced through the slightly parted drapes.

Obscenities in several obscure languages came to mind.

It was a perfect fairy tale castle, all turrets and stained glass and arches and gardens. It was also 100 feet in the air. Above the enchanted gardens.

He spoke to the messenger he hoped was still there.
“Get the design committee together. Meeting in twenty minutes. And start making coffee. Now.” He heard the messenger leave.

He sighed. Time to find the boss.
