Evens and Odds (Challenge by Numbers)
Everything in Liam’s apartment was by tens. No joke. There were ten cushions on his sofa, ten chairs around his table, and always ten bottles of milk in the fridge. The list just went on.
I never understood why. I don’t think any one did. Though I might have been the only person to have ever asked him.
Of course, he’d just reply with a “Hey, I don’t ask you why you keep a bottle of hotsauce on you.”
It seemed to me that he had some kind of OCD . One time we came back from seeing a movie, and he noticed that one of the bottles of milk was gone. Made me go to the store and get another right then. I never told him it was me that threw it out.
It worried me. So, I thought, why don’t you try and cure him of this freaky habit?
I took the cushions, three of the milk bottles, and left them out of the apartment. Then, I dropped a note telling Liam I stopped by.
He didn’t call me that night. He didn’t return my calls. He didn’t answer the door the next day.
In fact, after that, I never saw him.
