The Key (egnellahc sdrawkcab)
Her dream was a dark one, unnerving from the start. A woman’s crying provided eerie background noise, and babbling in an ancient tongue she didn’t know made her nervous. Shadow figures skittered at the corners of her vision, flickering in and out of shadow.
She tried to wake up, but couldn’t. Her fear deepened.
Hello? Who’s there, who’s crying? she thought. Why bother speaking in your own dream. The crying woman moaned, in modern Greek, “My box… break amulet… destroy the key…”
She tried again to wake, but no dice. Suddenly, a horrifying face loomed over her, shrieking and wailing in the unfamiliar language. Children were ripped apart in the darkness, the cries of all humanity echoed in her mind… Chaos. She woke, screaming.
She was holding a hammer, poised to strike the amulet on her nightstand. She couldn’t stop herself. As it shattered, she heard a woman’s voice, “The key… Destroy my box.”
Now that the key was destroyed, she had to examine the box more closely.
