Scout's Honor
After picking up Sassy from jail – and finding out that Sassy had not been incarcerated – at first, Becca was angry. Then Sassy reminded her if she had been put in jail, it would have been Becca’s fault anyways. That was sufficient enough to bring back the guilt trip for Becca.
The car ride home was a bit strained, until Sassy asked Becca to tell her all about the double date.
“Are you sure, Sassy? You won’t like some of it,” Becca said, stealing a glance at Sassy.
“Go ahead. I promise to behave. Scout’s honor.”
“You were never a girl scout, Sassy.”
“Whatever, just tell me.”
“OK, fine, but don’t say I didn’t warn you…”
Becca told Sassy everything. She left no moment untouched, cataloging Jameson’s every word, Paul’s every drunken slur. Becca hesitated only when describing how Paul brought her back to his apartment.
“But Sassy, you’ve got to believe me, all we did was sleep. I mean, we were real drunk. And the worst part of it all was when we woke up and he didn’t even remember my name.”
