Anticipation

“Hey boy!” She said running her hand over the muscles in his neck, stopping to scratch in his favorite spot. He bobbed his head up and down, pawing the ground with one front hoof.

“Okay! Mr. Impatient.” She giggled opening the gate and letting him follow her across the yard to the barn.

She stopped by the cross-ties and hooked him up-not that he would go anywhere. “Ready to go for a ride?” She asked, walking out of the tack room with a bridle in her hands.

Again he bobbed his head up and down. She laughed aloud and unhoocked and haltered and then gave him the bit, he took it eagerly. She slipped it carefully over his ears and fastened it in place. He pawed at the ground while she jumped up onto his back.

“Alright, we can go now.” She said, and just as she got the words out he began walking extremely fast, his legs pumping as he tried to keep calm. The woods were only a few more strides in front of them, he began to prance as they came closer to the opening that marked the trail.
