Ficlets

Guests and Crushes

Steph came outside to help me. We were tying balloons to Tori’s deck when we heard the door bell. Both of us looked at each other and squealed as we rushed to great the first guest.

I shot Steph a death glance as I saw who was at the door. I immediately thanked God that I had decided to go with my light beige and white striped halter dress as opposed to shorts and a tee.

“Hey Jacob!” Steph said, ushering him to the backyard as I followed behind like an idiot.

For the next thirty minutes, we showed people to the backyard in an endless stream. Steph was falling all over Mike when he showed up.

“Steph!” I called, rolling my eyes. So far we had gotten lucky. Everyone was smart enoguh not to park their cars on this street. I laughed quietly to myself remembering the look on Steph’s face when she realized she forgot to say not to bring cars.

The last person had shown up and I walked out to see Tori was rounding the corner. I sprinted inside yelling, “She’s here! Shhhh!”
