I shook my head at Mara’s text. I knew she wouldn’t explain herself. She never does. I counted out the days she’s been holed up in her house and smiled to myself. I knew she would be running short of her current addiction anytime now.
I walked out to my car and drove to Mara’s house. Her car wasn’t there so I knew my calculations were right and I’d catch her before she could make her escape back into her house.
“Vicki?â€? Mara called out her car window as she pulled up.
“Come on, your not going back into your house.â€? I said standing up from my seat on her porch and walking over to her.
“But…â€? She started and I shook my head. She really didn’t have a choice in this matter. I dragged her to my car, her loot from the store still in her hand, and got in on the other side.
“So, ya got anything good in there?â€? I asked teasingly as I peeked at what she bought.
“Pop tarts. Want one?â€? She asked handing me one either way. “Where are we going anyways?â€?
“You’ll see.â€? I told her, taking the pop tart.
