I shook my head at Mara’s text. I knew she wouldn’t explain herself. She never does. I counted out the days she’s been holed up in her house and smiled to myself. I knew she would be running short of her current addiction anytime now.
I walked out to my car and drove to Mara’s house. Her car wasn’t there so I knew my calculations were right and I’d catch her before she could make her escape back into her house.
“Vicki?â? Mara called out her car window as she pulled up.
“Come on, your not going back into your house.â? I said standing up from my seat on her porch and walking over to her.
“But…â? She started and I shook my head. She really didn’t have a choice in this matter. I dragged her to my car, her loot from the store still in her hand, and got in on the other side.
“So, ya got anything good in there?â? I asked teasingly as I peeked at what she bought.
“Pop tarts. Want one?â? She asked handing me one either way. “Where are we going anyways?â?
“You’ll see.â? I told her, taking the pop tart.
